The Vineyard

Today the Lestange estate overs 12 hectares, 5 of which are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Lestange gradually continues to re-plant : 1 hectare of new Merlot has just surfaced and currently, grape varieties are being chosen with a view to producing a high quality ‘terroir’ white wine. The property is in the process of converting to organic farming. This step is coherent with the ‘eco- lodge’ building project and the estate’s permanent quest for quality in three different fields : reception, production and development. Château Lestange produces a red AOC Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. The wine is currently produced and marketed by the famous Caves de Quinsac, but soon the wine will be produced once again at the château

History is a witness to the quality of the terroir (soils and micro-climate) and the wines produced at Lestange ; the 1874 edition of Féret, the bible of Bordeaux wines, wrote about Lestange at the time : “Lestange Domaine overs 33 hectares, 12 of which are situated on a hillside with clay-limestone soil and clay-gravel soil on rock and dedicated to vines. This vineyard is planted exclusively with Malbec, Merlot and Verdot and produces a much sought-after wine, regarded as one of the best in the area.”
